About The Position

This position is responsible for participating in the mechanical repair and maintenance of city vehicles and equipment. Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions in a variety of vehicles, equipment, and trucks. Performs corrective maintenance on heavy equipment and trucks, including diesel engines. Repairs brake, HVAC, transmission, electrical, steering, exhaust, instrumentation, and other system repairs. Performs field repairs as needed. Repairs or replaces tires. Acquires parts and equipment needed for the successful repair and maintenance of equipment. Installs prisoner cages in law enforcement vehicles. Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Completes required reports and maintains vehicle and equipment maintenance records. Performs related duties.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment utilized in the repair and maintenance of a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and relevant federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of oils and lubricants needed for different makes of equipment.
  • Knowledge of small engine equipment repairs.
  • Knowledge of diesel and heavy equipment maintenance and repair principles.
  • Knowledge of work safety principles.
  • Skill in cutting and reshaping metals in the fabrication of parts.
  • Skill in the operation of hydraulic and electrical test equipment.
  • Skill in the safe operation of tire equipment.
  • Skill in the operation of a variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Skill in problem-solving.
  • Skill in prioritizing and planning.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
