About The Position

We have an immediate position open for a Mechanic I to work in our facility as well as in the field with our crew in our Pasco location. The Mechanic I performs scheduled preventative maintenance and develops repair skills while working under the direction of the Maintenance Lead or Maintenance Manager. We have a team with almost 100 years of combined experience working for Basin Disposal who are looking for an individual to teach and guide.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred or ability to obtain
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, brakes, and electrical systems
  • Ability to safely operate company vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, climb, and work in various weather conditions
  • Stand, kneel, crouch, and work under vehicles for extended periods
  • Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, grease, dust, fumes, and varying temperatures
  • Ability to safely use tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to effectively communicate needed repairs or tasks.
  • Ability to read and comprehend service literature, technical information, and electrical and hydraulic schematics and diagrams.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 1 year of mechanical maintenance experience preferred
  • ASE certifications or related technical training
  • Experience with refuse trucks, heavy equipment, or fleet maintenance
  • Knowledge of DOT inspection requirements and compliance standards
  • Experience with CNG systems and compressors

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate the safe operation of all equipment from the truck line to the shop and safely operate hydraulic components around other employees and obstacles while in the shop to access grease points and oil check/fill locations.
  • Grease all vehicles based on the grease schedule set by the Maintenance Lead or Maintenance Manager.
  • Perform oil and filter changes based on the preventative maintenance (PM) schedule.
  • Take oil samples on vehicles and equipment based on the PM schedule and correctly complete required paperwork for oil sample submission.
  • Top off fluids (engine oil, AFT, coolant, hydraulic fluid) as notated by DVIRs and correctly complete work orders and return DVIRs to driver boxes for signature of repairs.
  • Maintain oil levels in CNG compressors.
  • Inspect shop vehicles weekly (check oil, top off fluids, fuel trucks).
  • Keep the shop in a clean and orderly fashion (sweeping, putting away parts, cleaning equipment).
  • Learn general repair techniques to perform repairs needed and notated on DVIRs.
  • Learn and develop skills needed to safely and efficiently repair equipment issues found during PMs and notated on DVIRs while working under the direction of the Maintenance Lead or Maintenance Manager.
  • Learn how to perform diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on equipment both in the field and at our facility using diagnostic software and other diagnosis techniques.
  • Learn how to perform DVIR repairs, certifying that the repairs have been safely completed while maintaining compliance with regulations set forth by the FMCSA and DOT.
  • Learn how to evaluate the repair, document the needed items, and offer an opinion on feasibility.
  • Must report to work on time and in uniform.
  • May be required to work on certain holidays and Saturdays (holiday weeks).
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Maintain a neat and tidy work environment.
  • Document and complete repair orders for all work completed.
