Requirements

Diverse skill set tailored to both diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles
Thorough knowledge of construction, design, repair, and adjustment of diesel motors
Familiarity with common construction equipment like graders, rollers, and bulldozers
Knowledge of the tools and equipment necessary for both major and minor repairs on diesel motors and construction machinery
Understanding of light and heavy-duty electrical systems
Solid grasp of the principles governing diesel and gasoline internal combustion engines
Skills in general traffic control maintenance
Specialized technical training in automotive repair
Must pass a thorough criminal background check

Responsibilities

Performing routine maintenance on City vehicles
Executing tire repairs, including installation and replacement
Diagnosing and repairing various systems, such as brakes, cooling, steering, and suspension
Conducting minor tune-ups
Assisting fellow mechanics when needed
Undertaking repairs and overhauls of trucks and other engineering equipment
Performing welding tasks
Testing equipment for defects
Executing checks on repairs before returning them to service
Working on small engines and equipment
