About The Position

The City of Pharr is hiring a full-time, onsite Mechanic I to maintain City vehicles and support city operations. The role includes routine maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, testing equipment for defects, and checking completed repairs before vehicles or equipment return to service. The mechanic may also work on small engines and equipment and perform welding tasks while ensuring repairs meet safety standards. The position offers an annual pay of $28,200.00 and benefits including medical, dental, vision, paid time off, and retirement. A thorough criminal background check is required because of the sensitivity of information handled by the position.

Requirements

Knowledge of the construction, design, repair, and adjustment of diesel motors and common construction equipment powered by them, such as graders, rollers, and bulldozers.
Knowledge of tools and equipment needed for major and minor repairs of diesel motors and diesel-powered construction equipment.
Knowledge of light and heavy-duty electrical systems and their role in the proper functioning of engineering equipment.
Knowledge of the principles of operation of diesel-fueled and gasoline internal combustion engines.
Skills in general traffic control maintenance.
Specialized technical training in automotive repair.
Must pass a thorough criminal background check.

Responsibilities

Perform routine maintenance on City vehicles.
Repair, install, and replace tires.
Diagnose and repair brake, cooling, steering, and suspension systems.
Perform minor tune-ups.
Assist fellow mechanics as needed.
Repair and overhaul trucks and other engineering equipment.
Perform welding tasks and ensure repairs meet safety standards.
Test equipment for defects and check repairs before returning equipment to service.
Work on small engines and equipment.
