Requirements

  • Diverse skill set tailored to both diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles
  • Thorough knowledge of construction, design, repair, and adjustment of diesel motors
  • Familiarity with common construction equipment like graders, rollers, and bulldozers
  • Knowledge of the tools and equipment necessary for both major and minor repairs on diesel motors and construction machinery
  • Understanding of light and heavy-duty electrical systems
  • Solid grasp of the principles governing diesel and gasoline internal combustion engines
  • Skills in general traffic control maintenance
  • Specialized technical training in automotive repair
  • Must pass a thorough criminal background check

Responsibilities

  • Performing routine maintenance on City vehicles
  • Executing tire repairs, including installation and replacement
  • Diagnosing and repairing various systems, such as brakes, cooling, steering, and suspension
  • Conducting minor tune-ups
  • Assisting fellow mechanics when needed
  • Undertaking repairs and overhauls of trucks and other engineering equipment
  • Performing welding tasks
  • Testing equipment for defects
  • Executing checks on repairs before returning them to service
  • Working on small engines and equipment
