About The Position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Mechanic, HVAC for the 2nd Shift to perform facilities work necessary for the operation, installation, overhaul, maintenance, and repair of various equipment related to energy and utility distribution for heating, cooling, and ventilation systems. This role involves working under the direction of a Leader/Supervisor to maintain and repair equipment, systems, and control devices that provide essential utilities for plant operations. The position requires interpreting drawings, sketches, and manuals to perform installations, adjustments, and component replacements, as well as overhauling standard piping systems and related devices. The Mechanic will also be responsible for obtaining necessary materials and equipment, preparing details, and assisting others with complex projects and joint tasks with other trades.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years industry experience or trade school diploma in a related field.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

  • In compliance with the collective bargaining agreement, priority consideration is given to candidates who are INTERNAL (and recall) to the Pratt & Whitney IAM Bargaining Unit members of District Lodge 26 and Affiliated Locals 700 and 1746 (Connecticut Operations).
  • May be required to train for, obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits and certifications within trade specialization.

Responsibilities

  • Perform facilities work necessary to operate, install, overhaul, maintain, and repair equipment for heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair equipment, systems, and control devices for providing heat, water, cooling, air, and other utilities.
  • Work from drawings, sketches, and manuals to perform system installation, adjust, and replace component assemblies and parts.
  • Overhaul standard piping systems and related component pumps and other similar devices.
  • Obtain required materials and equipment and prepare details by cutting, bending, and fitting.
  • Assist others responsible for completing complex projects for new and refurbished systems.
  • Perform similar duties throughout the facility within the scope and skill level of the job description.
  • Assist other trades working on joint projects where common skill crossover provides the opportunity for shared responsibilities and more effective use of available skills.
  • Refer difficulties to Leader/Supervisor.
