About The Position

Assists with mechanical inspections, maintenance, and repairs throughout the Industrial Plant. This role involves assisting mechanics and welders in the general maintenance and repair of Mill equipment, including the East and West tandems, turbines, pumps, and carriers. The position requires checking for problems, communicating with the reporting chain, and maintaining a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA Standards. Performs other related projects and assignments as business dictates.

Requirements

• Must be able to read, write and speak the English language to interpret manuals and directions on the job, over the radio, and to ensure safety for all on the work site.
• Ability to operate a forklift, use various hand / power tools, calibrating tools, soldering iron, drill press, welding, cutting equipment, levels, and measuring tape.
• Qualified to operate an overhead crane.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to comprehend and convey mechanical information.
• Ability to use computers, read & interpret manuals, basic welding & cutting skills and experience in cane grinding or similar processing environments.
• Ability to adapt quickly to a multicultural environment, remain calm and focused under pressure.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team, as needed.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• 1+ years of industrial mechanical skills.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual and Biliterate – English and Spanish, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist mechanics and welders in general maintenance and repair of Mill equipment.
• Assist with the maintenance and repair of the East and West tandems, starting / stopping turbines, pumps & carriers as well as lubricating and inspecting equipment.
• Check for problems and communicate up the reporting chain.
• Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Performs other related projects and assignments as business dictates.
