About The Position

Diagnoses mechanical problems, repairs and rebuilds equipment; checks and schedules work with others; orders parts as needed, welds, sandblast and paints equipment. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent or ten (10) years Heavy Equipment Mechanic experience will be considered.
  • Minimum one (1) year Heavy Equipment Mechanic experience repairing and troubleshooting Caterpillar mining equipment.
  • Previous remote rotational work experience as Heavy Equipment Mechanic required.
  • Drivers License and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, write routine reports and correspondence, speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Valid identification for TSA security checkpoint.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and make repairs on all aspects of automotive vehicles and equipment.
  • Do general and major work on vehicles, buses, light and heavy trucks, graders, and other automotive diesel and mechanical equipment.
  • Inspect, adjust and replace necessary units and related parts.
  • Tune motors using standard testing equipment.
  • Repair and overhaul brakes, transmissions, differentials, front and rear axle assemblies; repair and install hydraulic controls.
  • Perform different phases of tire work and minor body repairs.
  • Perform emergency road repairs and test vehicles and equipment to ensure safe operating conditions.
  • Prepares shop work orders on equipment repair, and orders parts as need to maintain stock.
  • Makes service call as needed.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.
  • Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
