About The Position

The primary role of the Mechanic/Electrician III is to work as a leader on the maintenance team to support company objectives with respect to maintaining and enhancing equipment to support production requirements. This role involves setup, repair, installation, and maintenance of machinery equipment, including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. The position also includes special projects, measuring and calibrating equipment, and performing preventative maintenance duties. The Mechanic/Electrician III is expected to have leadership abilities, strong mechanical/electrical aptitude, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team. They will perform all production equipment setups, support and complete preventive and planned maintenance, and lead efforts in building and enhancing equipment through continuous improvements and upgrades. This role requires visually and audibly inspecting machines, identifying repair needs, and communicating effectively with other departments regarding equipment repair status. The Mechanic/Electrician III will also cross over with previous shifts to review schedules and current runs, and lead in the diagnosis of mechanical and electrical malfunctions, as well as assembly and rebuilding efforts of high-valued equipment. Additionally, they will lead plant shut-down maintenance work, fabricate, assemble, and install mechanical/electrical systems, and mentor team members to enhance their knowledge and skills. The position requires strict adherence to industry guidelines, including Plant Safety, Food Safety, SQF, and internal/external audits, and reporting food safety & quality problems to authorized personnel.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Basic computer literacy as evidenced by the ability to go online and conduct basic searches on the Internet, check email, create and send with attachments and use basic email features.
  • Ability to read, write and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, procedure manuals, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Experience working with manufacturing equipment including 3 phase motors, control wiring, 24VDC, 120VAC, 208/220VAC, 480VAC.
  • Experience with Controls for Conveyor Systems, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Pumps and Valves.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comprehend and troubleshoot production machinery (i.e. Fillers, Rinsers, Cappers, Case Packers, Case Formers, Coolers and Pasteurizers).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Ability to use a variety of measuring tools and test equipment.
  • Ability to work independently, with limited supervision.
  • Requires mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge or experience with Multi-Meters, Amp Probes, Meger Ohm Meter, Panelview.
  • LiDestri experience 5+ years and familiarly with 100% of plant machinery.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Lock-Out Tag-Out Authorized, Hot Work, Confined Space and HECP Training preferred.
  • Knowledge of Drill Press, Chop Saw, Port-a-Band, Sawzall and other maintenance tools preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Setup, repair, install, and maintain machinery equipment including mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Complete special projects, measure and calibrate equipment, and perform preventative maintenance duties.
  • Perform all production equipment setups as required to meet operational needs.
  • Support and complete Preventive and Planned maintenance of mechanical, electrical and utilities equipment.
  • Lead efforts associated with building new and enhance equipment through continuous improvements upgrades.
  • Visually and audibly inspect machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunction.
  • Identify and report the need for repairs to Maintenance Management.
  • Cross over with previous shifts’ maintenance and production employees to review the schedule and current runs, identifying repair needs and plan product changeovers.
  • Effectively communicate with other departments in a professional manner at all times on equipment repair status.
  • Accurately communicate and document events within the maintenance team so that others have the most effective information to solve problems.
  • Lead in the diagnoses of mechanical and electrical malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
  • Lead assembly and rebuilding efforts of high valued equipment.
  • Lead efforts associated with plant shut-down maintenance work.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and install mechanical/electrical systems using tools associated with the task.
  • Teach others the ability to either use shop equipment or programs needed to perform daily functions.
  • Enhance the knowledge and skills of others in mechanical and electrical systems with mentoring and training techniques for team members.
  • Lead efforts associated with Engineering and Maintenance Managers on projects and continuous improvement as needed.
  • Complete all tasks while strictly adhering to all required industry guidelines to include and not limit to; Plant Safety, Food Safety, SQF and all internal/external audits.
  • Report food safety & quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
