About The Position

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) is seeking a Mechanic, Deicing Operations to join their team. This role is responsible for the inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs of various deicing vehicles and ground support equipment. Requirements

Minimum 2 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic and direct experience in vehicular and equipment maintenance gained in a variety of jobs.
Experience working over a very wide range of equipment.
Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification in the trade of Truck and Coach Technician (310T).
Valid Ontario Provincial Class G driver’s license.
Ability to obtain and maintain a D/A class AVOP permit within thirty (30) days of appointment to the position.
High School diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.
Ability to obtain and retain a Transport Security Clearance.
Knowledge of vehicle technology associated with the design, inspection, testing and use of deicing vehicles and equipment.
Ability to maintain up to date knowledge of current Ministry of Transportation regulations and practices and current technology of a very diversified fleet of light and heavy technologically advanced equipment.
Knowledge of computer diagnostics and programming tools to perform troubleshooting and maintenance duties.
Knowledge of accurate response to hazardous spills and containment, record keeping practices and health and safety practices.
Knowledge of maintenance of tools during work.
Knowledge of the layout of the airport.
Demonstrated interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work rotational shift work (days, nights and weekends) during the winter months.

Responsibilities

Repair and modify deicing vehicles equipped with hydraulic telescopic booms, data transfer and computer systems, vehicle operations computers, computerized nozzle and glycol mixers, storage tanks, glycol burner unit, and any associated program logic controllers (PLCs), etc.
Overhaul of components requiring extensive knowledge with computerized fuel injection and control systems, engine tune-ups and problem diagnosis.
Inspect, adjust, repair and/or replace all major and minor vehicle and equipment components, transmissions, air brakes, hydrostatic/hydraulics and electrical systems.
Resolve problems on vehicles and equipment, which have suffered failures of components or entire systems.
Disassemble complete units, when required, and rebuild, incorporate new, repaired or replacement components.
Check and repair brakes, brake drums, rotors, linings or disc pads, wheel and master cylinders, power assist and brake lines, wheel bearings and seals and repacks.
Inspect and repair all steering components, shock absorbers, springs, torsion bars and visually checking alignment.
Perform major and minor maintenance and repair work and replacement of units or components and carry out preventive maintenance inspections onto all emergency power units installed at the Central Deicing Facility.
Diagnose problems with air conditioning units and complete repairs including evacuating and recharging the entire system.
Test and calibrate vehicles to ensure that exhaust emissions are kept within specifications.
Perform general servicing including oil changes, filters, lubrications, safety equipment inspections, tires, batteries, wipers, lights, glass, etc. Cleaning, de-greasing vehicles and equipment.
Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and systems, including computer diagnostic systems and wireless communication devices, and employ a test bench to perform complex and advanced troubleshooting.
