The Mechanic B position involves a wide range of duties including laying out, running, and erecting pipelines and tubing from prints or sketches, making various types of joints, performing plumbing installations and repairs, and overhauling pipe line accessories and equipment. The role also includes fabricating and installing hangers and supports, working on low-pressure vessels, and performing less complicated welding tasks using gas or electric equipment. Additionally, the position requires inspecting, adjusting, repairing, testing, installing, and maintaining less complicated electrical equipment and controls, including motors, transformers, and circuit breakers, as well as performing less complicated motor repairs. The Mechanic B may work on or near energized circuits up to 440 volts and assist higher-grade mechanics. Responsibilities extend to running ordinary power and lighting circuits, performing necessary mechanical work, understanding relevant codes, and removing/installing instruments and controls. The job also involves general masonry work such as concrete and brick work, asbestos work, and plastering, as well as overhauling and repairing boilers and accessories, including installing baffles, replacing tubes, and repairing oil-burning equipment. Knowledge of rigging equipment for light loads is also required. Applicants may be involved in fuel oil delivery and unloading operations and will be subject to working special schedules to meet maintenance requirements.
