About The Position

As a Mechanic Apprentice – Level 4, you will work alongside experienced, licensed technicians gaining hands‑on experience with heavy duty construction equipment. This is an excellent opportunity for mechanically inclined individuals who are eager to learn, develop their skills, and build a long-term career in the heavy equipment industry.

Requirements

  • Mechanically inclined individual with a strong interest in heavy equipment including Genie, Skyjack and CAT.
  • Currently enrolled in, or having completed, a post-secondary Heavy Equipment Mechanic program with a genuine interest in learning and developing new skills.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions with the ability to regularly perform heavy lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a team-oriented mindset.
  • Proven ability to manager multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • A strong commitment to safe work practices, environmental responsibility, and Battlefield’s health and safety policies.
  • A high school diploma.

Nice To Haves

  • A basic understanding of preventative maintenance practices is an asset.
  • Ability to adapt to changing responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A technical understanding of CAT equipment would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workstation.
  • Work alongside licensed technicians, assisting with daily inspection, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
  • Identify basic heavy duty equipment power system issues by applying fundamental mechanical knowledge and critical thinking skills.
  • Inspect, test, and assist in servicing engine components and systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Inspect and test basic electrical and electronic systems on heavy duty equipment.
  • Identify, inspect, and test powertrain components and systems.
  • Inspect and assist in maintaining suspension, steering, and braking systems.
  • Disassemble and reassemble equipment components using proper shop practices and procedures.
  • Use diagnostic tools, test equipment, and schematics to assess fuel systems and related subsystems.
  • Apply basic knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics when inspecting and testing equipment.
  • Diagnose engines and support systems.
  • Diagnose hydrostatic, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Use computer systems and information technology to access repair procedures and manufacturer updates.
  • Complete logs, records, and documentation accurately and to required standards.
  • Apply communication and customer service skills to support positive customer experiences.
  • Develop professional skills and learning strategies to support ongoing career growth.
  • Perform all assigned work in compliance with health, safety, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Work safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner.
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments to ensure timely repairs and service delivery.
  • Collaborate seamlessly with your colleagues to create a supportive and efficient work environment.
  • Follow all workplace safety protocols and environmentally sound practices, making sure everyone stays safe.
