About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining and performing basic repairs on a variety of mobile and small equipment within the Section 42 Unit 071 Mechanic Shop, under the supervision of the Mechanic Supervisor B. The incumbent is expected to be self-motivated, work independently with minimal supervision, and adapt to unforeseen conditions as they arise. The incumbent will also participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all required continuing education classes and conferences necessary to effectively perform assigned duties. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience or training as a mechanic.

Responsibilities

  • Performs advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, overhaul, and repair of automobiles, trucks, buses, and light, heavy, mobile, and stationary equipment with gas and diesel engines, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, computer-controlled, steering, air conditioning, and other mechanical systems
  • Provides technical leadership and guidance to Mechanic 3s, Mechanic 2s, Mechanic 1s, apprentices, and helpers by assisting with complex mechanical and electronic repairs and problem-solving
  • Assigns and coordinates daily work, inspects completed repairs for quality and compliance, and trains employees on proper repair procedures, diagnostic equipment, and safe work practices
  • Resolves complex technical issues by assisting mechanics with diagnosing and repairing unforeseen equipment failures to ensure timely completion of maintenance activities
  • Maintains maintenance records and work orders, monitors parts and supply inventory, and ensures shop tools, equipment, and resources are available and maintained to support efficient operations.
