The Mechanic 3 is responsible for advanced to complex diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on trailers, diesel, and gasoline powered vehicles and plant equipment. Diagnoses and repairs advanced mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Performs emissions testing (state specific) and ensures compliance with environmental regulations. Acts as mentor to Mechanic 1 and 2 as needed. Coordinates with vendors and manufacturers for parts, services bulletins, and warranty work. Supports Fleet reliability initiatives and continuous improvement efforts. Utilizes OEM diagnostic software and tools for troubleshooting and calibration. Interprets and understands repair manuals in order to properly repair the equipment. Diagnoses and repairs diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, transmission and hydraulic systems. Troubleshoots and repairs air brake systems, suspension components, and drivetrains. Uses and understands diagnostics software and scan tools to identify and resolve issues. Maintains accurate service records and complete work orders in fleet management systems. Responds to roadside service calls for disabled vehicles when required. Maintains cleanliness and organization of the shop and work areas. Performs all preventive maintenance and repair work necessary on all fleet vehicles and plant vehicle, and plant equipment (wheel Loaders, Skid Steers, Man Lifts, Scissor Lifts, Backhoe, Lawn mowers, and Farm Tractors). Reviews driver vehicle inspection reports and repair inspections as directed by the Fleet Manager. Performs routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks. Inspects and replaces basic components like belts, hoses, batteries, and lights. Assists in diagnosing mechanical issues using basic diagnostic tools. Documents work performed and parts used through maintenance logs or fleet management systems. Responsible for being familiar with and observing all company safety rules and regulations; recognizes that safety is top company priority; attends regularly scheduled safety meetings. Participate in ongoing training and certification programs (travel as needed). Other duties as assigned.
