About The Position

Ryan Lawn & Tree is seeking an experienced Mechanic 2 for their Shawnee, KS branch to maintain and repair their fleet of vehicles and equipment. The role involves performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing and fixing problems using diagnostic tools, welding, fabricating, and ensuring compliance with DOT guidelines. The mechanic will also be responsible for logging maintenance records, managing inventory, keeping the shop organized, and supporting field teams by communicating repair timelines and training new hires on equipment care. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and safety of the equipment used by field teams daily.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of mechanic experience, or a vocational certification or associate's degree in mechanical repair.
  • Strong knowledge & experience for preventative maintenance and repair for diesel trucks (Silverado to Freightliner), small construction equipment (skid steer to spreader), and hydraulic system repairs (mini-skid steer to bucket trucks and grapple loaders).
  • A thorough understanding of the DOT inspection process.
  • Experience with computerized diagnostic equipment.
  • Welding and minor fabrication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail, and communication skills.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • The ability to lift 50 pounds and work in tight spaces in and under vehicles.
  • Successful completion of position-specific Ryan U training and field assessment.

Nice To Haves

  • General knowledge of the Great Game of Business (GGOB) and department operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on all Ryan Lawn & Tree vehicles, equipment, and machinery.
  • Use computerized diagnostic tools to find and fix problems.
  • Weld and complete minor fabrication as needed.
  • Conduct maintenance inspections and keep the fleet in line with DOT guidelines.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors on repairs that need to be sent out.
  • Log maintenance records and data in Fleetio daily.
  • Monitor parts and supply inventory.
  • Keep the shop floor and workspace clean and organized.
  • Pick up and deliver equipment and parts.
  • Communicate daily with field teams about repair timelines, maintenance expectations, and equipment issues.
  • Train and coach new hires and field associates on best practices for equipment care.
  • Give input on capital equipment planning for different departments.
  • Help manage a safe, efficient fleet within the maintenance budget.
