About The Position

We’re looking for an engineering intern who brings both mechanical design ability and an understanding of chemical or process systems. The ideal candidate is CAD-proficient, analytically strong, and curious about how fluid mechanics, chemistry, and mechanical design intersect in real-world applications. Day to day, you’ll be doing design and drafting work on an active project portfolio — contributing to new equipment concepts, updating and creating drawings, and supporting the engineering team with technical analysis. You’ll also get hands-on exposure in our shop environment, assisting with fabrication, assembly, and equipment testing alongside experienced engineers and technicians. This is a small team. That means broader exposure, more ownership, and work that matters — but also that everyone contributes at every level when the job calls for it.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or closely related program
  • Proficient in CAD — SolidWorks strongly preferred; other parametric modeling experience considered
  • Strong academic record
  • Junior or senior standing preferred; strong sophomore candidates considered
  • Local to Lafayette or able to commute; position is Lafayette-based

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or demonstrated interest in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, or chemical process systems
  • Ability to take a concept and develop it independently — asks the right questions, then executes
  • Attention to detail in design work — you catch your own mistakes before anyone else does
  • Comfortable in a shop or lab environment; not afraid of hands-on work
  • Can-do mentality in an environment where problems are real, and solutions have to work in the field

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to mechanical and process design for new equipment concepts.
  • Update and create drawings.
  • Support the engineering team with technical analysis.
  • Assist with fabrication, assembly, and equipment testing in the shop environment.
  • Contribute to mechanical and process design for new equipment development projects.
  • Support fabrication for new equipment development projects.
  • Potentially see new equipment development projects through to field testing.
  • Engineer efforts to improve polymer hydration and shear performance.
  • Support assembly, testing, and commissioning work for active equipment build cycles.
  • Provide design and drafting support for equipment upgrade projects.
  • Contribute to early-stage design work for emerging development projects.
