About The Position

The Meat Clerk works in the Meat Department at Sprouts Farmers Market, providing friendly, prompt customer service and supporting safe food handling, product knowledge, and meat preparation. Duties include receiving, storing, and grinding meats; unloading and transporting fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry; checking deliveries against invoices; and inspecting and rotating stored meats to maintain freshness. The clerk assists customers with questions, special orders, and product needs, shares information about weekly ad items, and directs customers to products throughout the store. The role also includes following the department’s “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs, adhering to departmental procedures, and keeping the work area clean and sanitized. The position is hands-on and fast-paced, with work in a temperature-controlled area and a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Be dependable and reliable.
Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
Be capable of standing continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift, and walking up to 2 miles per 8-hour period.
Be able to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
Have good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
Be able to lift and carry products weighing 25 to 90 pounds between heights of 4 and 60 inches, up to 10 feet, for 20 hours.
Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 85 pounds of force, up to 100 feet, for up to 5 hours.
Be able to move product racks weighing up to 70 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 25 pounds of force, up to 50 feet, for up to 10 hours.
Be able to move tables weighing up to 70 pounds, requiring more than 35 pounds of force, up to 2 feet, for up to 1 hour.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and assist with customer questions, special orders, and needs.
Practice safe food handling and maintain product knowledge and preparation techniques.
Receive, store, and grind meats.
Unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
Count and weigh incoming products and compare results with invoices.
Examine stored meats and rotate them to avoid aging.
Know weekly ad items and direct customers to product locations throughout the store.
Follow the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs and Meat Department procedures.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize department work areas.
Follow safety, health, weights and measures regulations, and company recipes.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
