About The Position

The Meat Clerk works in the Meat Department at Sprouts Farmers Market, providing prompt, friendly customer service and maintaining strong product knowledge and safe food-handling practices. This hands-on role involves receiving, storing, grinding, and preparing meats; unloading and transporting fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry; checking incoming items against invoices; and examining and rotating stored meats to maintain freshness. The clerk helps customers with questions, special orders, and other needs, shares information about weekly ad items, and directs customers to products throughout the store.

The role requires following department procedures, including the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs, and maintaining and sanitizing the work area. The clerk works in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment and may perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
• Be dependable and reliable.
• Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
• Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
• Be able to stand continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift, and walk up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
• Be able to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
• Have good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
• Be able to lift and carry products weighing 25 to 90 pounds between heights of 4 and 60 inches, for distances up to 10 feet, for up to 20 hours.
• Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 85 pounds of force, for distances up to 100 feet, for up to 5 hours.
• Be able to move product racks weighing up to 70 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 25 pounds of force, for distances up to 50 feet, for up to 10 hours.
• Be able to move tables weighing up to 70 pounds, requiring more than 35 pounds of force, for distances up to 2 feet, for up to 1 hour.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and assist customers with questions, special orders, and other needs.
• Maintain product knowledge, including knowledge of weekly ad items, and direct customers to products throughout the store.
• Practice safe food-handling procedures and follow department guidelines, safety regulations, health regulations, weights and measures requirements, and company recipes.
• Receive, store, and grind meats.
• Unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
• Count and weigh incoming items and compare results against invoices.
• Examine meats in storage and rotate them to avoid aging.
• Follow the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
• Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize the department work area and equipment.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
