About The Position

The Meat Clerk works in the Meat Department at Sprouts Farmers Market, providing prompt, friendly customer service and supporting safe food handling, product knowledge, and preparation. The role receives, stores, grinds, unloads, and transports meat and poultry; checks incoming goods against invoices; and examines and rotates stored products to maintain freshness. The clerk helps customers with questions, special orders, and product locations, stays informed about weekly ad items, and follows the department’s “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs, along with all department procedures. This hands-on role involves working in a fast-paced environment and maintaining a clean and sanitary work area.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Be dependable and reliable.
Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Be capable of standing continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift, and walking up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
Be able to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
Have good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
Be able to lift or carry products horizontally or vertically weighing 25 to 90 lbs., from 4 to 60 inches, up to 10 feet, for 20 hours.
Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 lbs. horizontally, requiring up to 85 lbs. of force, up to 100 feet, for up to 5 hours.
Be able to move product racks weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring up to 25 lbs. of force, up to 50 feet, for up to 10 hours.
Be able to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring more than 35 lbs. of force, up to 2 feet, for up to 1 hour.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and assist customers with questions, special orders, and needs.
Maintain product knowledge, including weekly ad items, and direct customers to products throughout the store.
Receive, store, grind, unload, and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry.
Count and weigh incoming products and compare results with invoices.
Examine stored meats and rotate products to avoid aging.
Follow safe food-handling procedures, department guidelines, company recipes, and applicable safety, health, weights, and measures regulations.
Follow the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize department work areas and equipment.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
