About The Position

The Meat/Seafood Clerk works in Sprouts Farmers Market’s Meat Department, providing prompt, friendly customer service and maintaining strong product knowledge and safe food-handling practices. This hands-on role receives, stores, and grinds meats; unloads and transports fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry; checks deliveries against invoices; and inspects and rotates stored meats to maintain freshness. The clerk assists customers with questions, special orders, and product locations, and maintains a positive, customer-focused environment. The role also follows department procedures and company programs, including “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4.”

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Be dependable and reliable.
Show outgoing, friendly behavior and a positive attitude when interacting with customers.
Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Be able to stand continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift, and walk up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
Be able to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
Have good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
Be able to lift and carry products weighing 25 to 90 lbs. between heights of 4 and 60 inches, up to 10 feet, for 20 hours.
Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 lbs. horizontally, requiring up to 85 lbs. of force, for up to 100 feet and up to 5 hours.
Be able to move product racks weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring up to 25 lbs. of force, for up to 50 feet and up to 10 hours.
Be able to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring more than 35 lbs. of force, for up to 2 feet and up to 1 hour.
Adhere to safety, health, weights and measures regulations, and company recipes.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and assist customers with questions, special orders, and needs.
Maintain product knowledge, including weekly ad items, and help customers locate products throughout the store.
Receive, store, and grind meats; unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
Count and weigh incoming products and compare results with invoices.
Inspect meats in storage and rotate them to avoid aging.
Follow safe food-handling procedures, department guidelines, company recipes, and applicable safety, health, weights, and measures regulations.
Follow the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize the department work area.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
