About The Position

The Meat Clerk works in the Meat Department at Sprouts Farmers Market, providing friendly, prompt customer service while following safe food handling procedures and department guidelines. This hands-on role includes receiving, storing, and grinding meats; unloading and transporting fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry; checking deliveries against invoices; and inspecting and rotating stored meats to maintain freshness. The clerk assists customers with questions, special orders, and product needs, shares knowledge of weekly ad items, and directs customers to products throughout the store. The role also requires following the department’s “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs, maintaining product knowledge and preparation techniques, and keeping the work area clean and sanitized. The position involves working in a fast-paced, customer-focused team environment and adhering to safety, health, weights and measures regulations, company recipes, and other procedural guidelines.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
• Be dependable and reliable.
• Show outgoing and friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
• Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
• Be capable of standing continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift; walk up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
• Be able to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
• Have good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
• Be able to lift and carry products weighing 25 to 90 pounds between heights of 4 and 60 inches, for distances up to 10 feet, for 20 hours.
• Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 85 pounds of force, for distances up to 100 feet, for up to 5 hours.
• Be able to move product racks weighing up to 70 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 25 pounds of force, for distances up to 50 feet, for up to 10 hours.
• Be able to move tables weighing up to 70 pounds, requiring greater than 35 pounds of force, for distances up to 2 feet, for up to 1 hour.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and assist customers with questions, special orders, and other needs.
• Practice safe food handling procedures and maintain product knowledge and preparation techniques.
• Receive, store, and grind meats.
• Unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
• Count and weigh incoming items and compare results against invoices.
• Examine meats in storage and rotate them to avoid aging.
• Share information about weekly ad items and direct customers to products throughout the store.
• Follow the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs and Meat Department procedural guidelines.
• Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize the department work area, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
• Follow safety, health, weights and measures regulations, and company recipes.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
