About The Position

The Meat Clerk works in the Meat Department at Sprouts Farmers Market, providing prompt, friendly customer service while handling and preparing meat products. The role involves receiving, storing, grinding, and transporting meats and poultry; checking incoming deliveries against invoices; and examining and rotating stored meats to maintain freshness. The clerk assists customers with questions, special orders, and product locations, and maintains knowledge of weekly ad items and product preparation techniques. The position also requires following department procedures and the company’s “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. The role includes general housekeeping and sanitation, adherence to food safety and other regulations, and physical work involving standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and moving products and equipment. Work takes place in a temperature-controlled area, and the schedule may vary with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Be dependable and reliable.
Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
Be capable of standing continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift; walk up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
Be able to work in a temperature-controlled area.
Have good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
Be able to lift or carry products weighing 25 to 90 pounds between 4 and 60 inches high, up to 10 feet, for up to 20 hours.
Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 85 pounds of force, up to 100 feet, for up to 5 hours.
Be able to move product racks weighing up to 70 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 25 pounds of force, up to 50 feet, for up to 10 hours.
Be able to move tables weighing up to 70 pounds, requiring more than 35 pounds of force, up to 2 feet, for up to 1 hour.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and help customers with questions, special orders, and other needs.
Receive, store, and grind meats; unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
Count and weigh incoming products and compare the results against invoices.
Examine meats in storage and rotate them to avoid aging.
Maintain knowledge of weekly ad items and direct customers to product locations throughout the store.
Follow the Meat Department’s procedural guidelines and the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize the department work area, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
Follow safety, health, weights and measures regulations, and company recipes.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
