About The Position

The Meat Clerk works in the Meat Department at Sprouts Farmers Market, providing prompt, friendly customer service and maintaining product knowledge and safe food-handling practices. This hands-on role involves receiving, storing, grinding, transporting, weighing, inspecting, and rotating meats and poultry. The clerk helps customers with questions, product locations, special orders, and other needs, and follows department procedures and the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs. The position also includes housekeeping and sanitation duties and adherence to applicable safety, health, weights-and-measures regulations, and company recipes. Work takes place in a fast-paced grocery environment, including temperature-controlled areas, and may involve a flexible schedule that changes with business needs.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Dependable and reliable.
Outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and ability to interact with customers.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Good communication skills and ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
Ability to adhere to safety, health, weights-and-measures regulations, and company recipes.
Ability to stand continuously for up to four hours and for a total of eight hours per shift; ability to walk up to two miles per eight-hour shift.
Ability to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
Good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
Ability to lift or carry products weighing 25 to 90 pounds between heights of 4 and 60 inches, up to 10 feet, for 20 hours.
Ability to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 85 pounds of force, up to 100 feet, for up to five hours.
Ability to move product racks weighing up to 70 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 25 pounds of force, up to 50 feet, for up to 10 hours.
Ability to move tables weighing up to 70 pounds, requiring more than 35 pounds of force, up to two feet, for up to one hour.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and assist with questions, special orders, and customer needs.
Maintain product knowledge, including knowledge of weekly ad items, and direct customers to products throughout the store.
Receive, store, grind, unload, and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry.
Count and weigh incoming products and compare results against invoices.
Examine meats in storage and rotate them to avoid aging.
Follow safe food-handling procedures, department guidelines, company recipes, and safety, health, weights-and-measures regulations.
Follow the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize the department work area, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
