About The Position

This role is responsible for inspecting fresh meat shipments, performing quality control inspections on beef and pork to ensure adherence to specifications, and conducting daily date and rotation checks on fresh meat. The position also involves inspecting returned merchandise from member stores and ensuring proper disposition. Additionally, the role assists meat merchandising with maintaining dates, inventory accuracy, and quality specifications for incoming products. It also involves helping vendors with date checks and disposition of short-dated products, and assisting meat buyers with proper rotation and slotting in the warehouse. The role acts as a liaison between meat merchandising and the warehouse, and is responsible for organizing and maintaining accurate record-keeping systems, including HACCP records.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of all meat related items in the meat warehouse.
  • Knowledge of warehousing.
  • Able to apply the team approach when working with other AWG staff departments including Meat Procurement and Meat Merchandising personnel.
  • Able to conduct one's self in a business-like manner in one's relationships with other management peoples and the people with whom one associates.
  • Able to function independently with little direct supervision.
  • Able to accept direction of senior management and promote the best interest of AWG and its members.
  • Able to use proper judgment regarding acceptability of meat.
  • Able to communicate effectively with Federal and State Inspectors, Store Managers, and other outside personnel and suppliers.
  • Six (6) years of experience in Meat at the retail or warehouse level.
  • Knowledge of meat items.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect fresh meat shipments coming into the warehouse for quality, freshness, and weights, dates.
  • Perform outlined quality control inspections on fresh beef and pork to insure adherence to specifications.
  • Perform daily date and rotation checks on fresh meat.
  • Inspect all merchandise returned by member stores and insure proper disposition.
  • Assist meat merchandising in maintaining dates, inventory accuracy, and quality specifications covering all incoming products.
  • Help vendors with weekly date checks and disposition of short dated product.
  • Assist meat buyers in maintaining proper rotation and accurate slotting in the warehouse.
  • Act as a liaison between meat merchandising and warehouse.
  • Organize and maintain an accurate and up-to-date record keeping system.
  • Keep HACCP records accurate and up to date.
