About The Position

Assists management with product preparation and identification, to include displaying on a flexible work schedule. The role involves receiving, identifying, organizing, tagging, labeling, documenting, packaging, wrapping, sealing, pricing, preparing, cutting, slicing, serving, gathering, grouping, separating, rotating, and/or otherwise recording product in the work area. It also requires maintaining cleanliness and sanitary conditions of work, staging, storage, and display areas to meet Pay-Less and regulatory agency standards. The position requires knowledge of advertising, programs, projects, policies, practices, procedures, rules, and regulations to answer customer questions, and assists with product preparation for the next business day, including disposing of product waste. Additionally, the role provides assistance with monthly and fiscal inventories and may compile documentation for recordkeeping related to product on-hand, needed, outdated, damaged, and spoiled product. The Meat Merchandiser is expected to display good customer service skills and direct customers to the proper location when asked where items can be found. Other duties may be assigned by a supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Health Certificate
  • Able to read and speak in English
  • Able to uphold company's mission statement
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with staff and customers
  • Adhere to all local and federal safety and environmental codes, ordinances, standards and laws
  • Adhere to all Pay-Less Markets and local safety plans, policies, practices and standards
  • Be aware of and follow all safety rules of your work site
  • Report any unsafe conditions or accidents to your supervisor and participate in mandatory or available safety training.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs)
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Comfortable working in a warm and cold environment
  • Regularly required to talk, hear, and respond to customers and employees.
  • Frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, identify, organize, tag, label, document, package, wrap, seal, price, prepare, cut, slice, serve, gather, group, separate, rotate, and/or otherwise record product in work area.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions of work, staging, storage, and display areas, ensuring Pay-Less and regulatory agency standards are met and exceeded.
  • Be cognizant of advertising, programs, projects, policies, practices, procedures, rules, and regulations and correspondingly answer customers’ questions.
  • Assist with product preparation for the next business day.
  • Assist with disposing of product waste resultant of preparatory procedures.
  • Provide assistance relative to monthly and fiscal inventories.
  • Provide input and/or compile documentation for recordkeeping information relative to product “on-hand”, product needed, “out-dated” product, damage and spoilage.
  • Display good customer service skills.
  • Direct customers to the proper location when asked where items can be found.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
