About The Position

WEIS is looking for a passionate and customer-focused Meat Manager to lead their meat department. This role involves ensuring excellent customer service, managing inventory, developing merchandising plans, and supervising a team of associates. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in retail management, particularly in the meat department, and a commitment to teamwork and associate growth.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Minimum (3) years' experience in management within a retail/restaurant/supermarket environment.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without an accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in business related or food service-related field desirable.
  • Meat management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promote excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer-focused behavior with associates.
  • Determine customer needs for meat products in terms of size and appearance, and create finished products in a timely fashion.
  • Develop and implement localized merchandising plans and create displays for new or seasonal items to drive sales.
  • Develop and maintain communications with other departments and the store manager for cross-merchandising plans to meet financial objectives.
  • Monitor competitor activity concerning merchandising, pricing, quality, and signage.
  • Schedule all Meat associates, oversee and participate in training, reward and recognize performance, and delegate work assignments.
  • Participate in associate annual performance reviews and new hire interviews.
  • Utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) for current and new associates.
  • Manage inventory levels and review orders to ensure product quantities meet customer demand.
  • Maintain backroom organization and product storage within company guidelines.
  • Oversee shelf replenishment efforts to ensure product availability for customers.
  • Utilize the cutting list for accuracy and variety of product.
  • Check and verify all department deliveries and invoices to ensure accurate billing.
  • May help unload merchandise and transport to sales floor or storage area.
  • Enforce and follow department practices regarding receiving, dating, and restocking to ensure product rotation.
  • Monitor product quality and freshness.
  • Break down deliveries.
  • Control department expenses by improving operations and efficiencies, controlling labor costs, and reducing losses due to damages, spoiled product, and shrink.
  • Ensure associates correctly follow company recipes for prepared products.
  • Maintain freshness by properly removing and recording out-of-code products.
  • Complete required product logs.
  • Keep meat department cases well stocked and appealing to meet customer demand.
  • Make suggestions, answer questions about various cuts and preparation of products.
  • Take orders for future delivery and help fill special requests.
  • Help resolve customer concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Set up displays and rotate product as needed.
  • Ensure that meat is fresh, in saleable condition with proper prices and signage.
  • Handle product that is spoiled, damaged or close to expiration as detailed by company procedures and standards.
  • Remove product that is not saleable to ensure quality.
  • May grind and cut certain meats and poultry.
  • Weigh and wrap merchandise at customer request; apply sticker showing correct price and weight.
  • Maintain necessary logs to track freshness and quality.
  • Adhere to all food and personal safety codes when handling product or utilizing kitchen tools.
  • Maintain backroom and receiving area security and organization by promoting 5S procedures.
  • Responsible for general sanitation in the department.
  • Follow cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure that work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean and meet all health and OSHA requirements.
  • Dispose of trash properly.
  • Empty bone cans.
  • May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if properly trained.
  • Ensure smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and superiors.
  • Continuously improve job performance.
  • Responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE).
  • May also be called upon to assist in other departments.
  • Supervise associates within the department.
  • May assume total leadership of the building in absence of store management.
