The Meat Manager will direct the operation of the Meat Department, including supervising and training personnel. This role ensures customer service and product quality, freshness, safety, and selection. The Meat Manager champions company and division customer service programs, handles customer relations positively, and promotes a philosophy of personalized service. They supervise the day-to-day functions of the meat department to achieve customer service, sales, and profit objectives. This includes supervising, motivating, directing, training, and participating in the hiring of meat department personnel, monitoring associate performance, and recommending personnel actions. The manager also schedules personnel to ensure adequate coverage and service levels while meeting budgetary objectives. Daily inspections of all meat sections are conducted to ensure compliance with product quality, trimming, grinding, rotation, code date standards, and sanitation, safety, and security requirements. The role involves assisting with all meat department duties such as receiving, storage, cleaning, customer service, cutting, grinding, wrapping, packaging, and stocking. The Meat Manager implements promotional and seasonal displays, controls shrink and expenses, and accurately completes and monitors daily logs, purchase reports, sales and labor reports, and other required paperwork. They order, check, receive, and control inventory to ensure adequate levels, product quality, and freshness, and prevent the sale of out-of-code products. Periodic inventories are taken, administrative paperwork is processed, and accurate department records are maintained. The cooler and freezer are maintained and organized. Product quality, trimming, grinding, packaging, labeling, rotation, and wrapping standards are ensured. Proper merchandising of product is achieved by understanding and implementing schematics, merchandising advertised items, proper signing procedures, and monitoring product flow. Compliance with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, and Company policies is required. The manager follows Company policy in pricing and handling re-worked and reduced-to-clear items and complies with all health, food handling, and safety standards. Competitors are checked for comparisons on prices, product variety, and merchandising procedures. Customers are assisted by taking and filling special orders, making product suggestions, and engaging in suggestive selling. Intercom announcements may be made. Cleanliness and sanitation of the sales floor, work area, freezer, cooler, equipment, and retail cases are ensured. Incoming calls are answered and responded to appropriately. Customer complaints are received and resolved, and reported to the Store Director as appropriate. Required training is attended. Knives, scales, steamers, display cases, saws, meat tenderizers, slicers, cubers, and wrapping equipment are maintained and cleaned. Emergency procedures are assisted with in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions. Associates are trained and instructed in proper work duties, and their performance is monitored and reported to the Store Director. Associate complaints are resolved and reported to the Store Director as appropriate. Confidentiality concerning associates, store sales, and other Company information is maintained. All job duties and responsibilities are performed safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity. Other necessary and required duties are also performed.
