About The Position

The Meat Manager directs the operation of the Meat Department, including supervising and training personnel. This role ensures customer service and product quality, freshness, safety, and selection. The manager champions company and division customer service programs, handles customer relations positively, and resolves complaints. They supervise the day-to-day functions of the meat department to achieve customer service, sales, and profit objectives. This includes motivating, directing, training, and participating in the hiring of meat department personnel, monitoring associate performance, and recommending personnel actions. The manager also schedules personnel to ensure adequate coverage and service levels while meeting budgetary objectives. Daily inspections of meat sections are conducted to ensure compliance with product quality, trimming, grinding, rotation, stocking, code date, sanitation, safety, and security standards. The role involves assisting with all meat department duties such as receiving, storage, cleaning, customer service, cutting, grinding, wrapping, packaging, and stocking. They implement promotional displays, control shrink and expenses, and accurately complete required paperwork and logs. Ordering, checking, receiving, and controlling inventory are key responsibilities to ensure adequate levels, product quality, and freshness, and to prevent the sale of out-of-code products. Periodic inventories, administrative paperwork, and accurate department record maintenance are also required, along with maintaining and organizing the meat department cooler and freezer. The manager ensures product quality, trimming, grinding, packaging, labeling, rotation, and wrapping standards are met, and proper merchandising of product through schematics, advertised items, signing procedures, and product flow monitoring. Compliance with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, and company policies is essential. The manager follows company policy in pricing and handling re-worked and reduced-to-clear items and complies with all health, food handling, and safety standards. Competitor analysis on prices, product variety, and merchandising procedures is conducted. Customer relations are handled by taking and filling special orders, making product suggestions, and engaging in suggestive selling. Cleanliness and sanitation of the sales floor, work area, freezer, cooler, equipment, and retail cases are ensured. Incoming calls are answered appropriately, and customer complaints are resolved and reported to the Store Director. Required training is attended. Knives, scales, steamers, display cases, saws, meat tenderizers, slicers, cubers, and wrapping equipment are maintained and cleaned. Emergency procedures for equipment and computer software malfunctions are assisted with. Associates are trained and instructed in proper work duties, and their performance is monitored and reported to the Store Director. Associate complaints are resolved and reported to the Store Director. Confidentiality concerning associates, store sales, and other company information is maintained. The role is responsible for performing all job duties and responsibilities safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity. Other necessary and required duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Requires working knowledge of all job duties within the Meat Department including cutting, wrapping, steaming, grinding, cubing, tenderizing and customer service.
  • Requires strong communication skills, good leadership and interpersonal skills, the proven ability to manage people and the ability to maintain composure in dealing with customers and co-workers.

  • Pushes and pulls fully loaded hand trucks, high boys and pallet jacks.
  • Performs repetitious arm movement to prepare and package products.
  • Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary.
  • Must be able to operate meat cutting utensils and equipment.
  • Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities.
  • Requires knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures.
  • Must have knowledge of taste, content and perishability of products, safety and sanitation procedures and department policies and procedures.
  • Operates computer software and electronic ordering devices to order products, plan sales, input inventory and schedules, and print labels.
  • Utilizes knives, saws, cutters, grinders and other cutting equipment.
  • Utilizes cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Utilizes safety cutters.
  • Requires use of safety gloves.
  • Knowledge of profit and loss statements.
  • Will be required to work nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Good attendance is required.
  • Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to cutting equipment and other work aids necessary to perform job duties.
