About The Position

The Meat Journeyman position is responsible for assisting customers in their shopping experience by providing high-quality meat products in the most efficient, friendly, and courteous manner possible. This role also involves providing customers with quality smoked meats daily. The individual will be responsible for receiving, stocking, packaging, and displaying meat products in the Meat Department, and will assist customers at the meat counter and with smoked products. This is a non-exempt position that formally reports to the Meat Manager.

Requirements

A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
Must meet the training and experience requirements for a Journeyman Meat Cutter status within the first 2 years of employment (applies to both union and non-union settings).
Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino Learning Plan.
Reaching overhead with both arms up to a maximum of 75 inches, twisting at the waist and lifting objects with both hands weighing up to 20 lbs.
Pushing and pulling grocery items/carts to the proper locations as needed, up to a peak force of 40 lbs.
Standing and walking for long periods of time on tile, asphalt, concrete or other hard surfaces.
Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 80 lbs.
Bending, squatting and crouching, at times all the way to floor level.
Able to work in colder conditions of the grocery coolers and freezers.

Nice To Haves

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Climbing a ladder, possibly up to 5ft.

Responsibilities

Assist customers in their shopping experience by providing high quality meat products in the most efficient, friendly, and courteous manner possible.
Provide customers with quality smoked meats on a daily basis.
Receive, stock, package, and display meat products in the Meat Department.
Assist customers both at the meat counter and with the smoked products.
Follow all guidelines on the proper techniques of cutting and/or preparing items for placement in the display cases.
Smoke various meats to be sold in the store.
Monitor all product expiration dates and ensure that all items are properly rotated.
Monitor products for any damaged, un-saleable, or returnable products that should be removed and follow proper procedures for damage claims.
Accurately count and record merchandise as part of the inventory process.
Quickly and accurately change shelf tags, change price markers on displays, and label/price mark merchandise.
Be knowledgeable about department items, procedures and policies so customer questions can be answered accurately and courteously.
Resolve customer complaints in a professional manner and recognize when it is appropriate to involve a member of the store management team.
Assist customers at the counter by weighing, wrapping and pricing selected items.
Know and implement the Cosentino Customer Service Standards.
Actively work to keep your work area and your department as a whole clean and safe for customers and coworkers.
Know, comply with, and encourage other team members to comply with all health regulations, sanitation guidelines and safety procedures for your department and your store.
Operate, clean and maintain all equipment safely and competently.
Meet or exceed productivity standards to produce desired team and individual results.
Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal skills necessary for positive customer and peer interactions.
Demonstrate basic math and reading skills required for the position.
Promote new items and weekly specials through effective merchandising and creative displays.
Quickly unload and sort incoming shipments and neatly stock them in their designated areas without damaging merchandise.
Neatly stock department shelves by matching item UPC codes to shelf tags and ensuring products are front facing for customers.
Closely monitor the department for potential security issues and report any concerns to a member of the department or store management team.
Support your company by completing additional tasks identified by management, assisting other stores or departments as needed and gaining new skills when necessary.
