About The Position

The Meat Department Associate is responsible for various tasks within the meat department, including receiving and inspecting products, maintaining department cleanliness and organization, merchandising attractive displays, and providing excellent customer service. This role requires a strong understanding of food safety, product knowledge, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment. The associate will also be responsible for maintaining department logs, participating in training, and performing other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year experience in Meat & Seafood department or equivalent retail experience

Responsibilities

  • Check the load against the invoice for proper billing.
  • Report overages and shortages to the Meat Department manager.
  • Inspect all products for quality and condition, identifying and reporting unacceptable products to the Meat Department manager.
  • Put load away in designated storage area, maintaining proper rotation and cleanliness.
  • Code date all product to assist in proper rotation.
  • Coordinate storage of items to be returned to suppliers.
  • See that unsellable items are properly disposed of and keep accurate shrinkage logs.
  • Ensure that meat shelves, displays, aisles, prep & storage areas are in clean, orderly conditions, meeting all health department standards.
  • Ensure trash is removed; sales floor and prep areas are swept and mopped daily.
  • Perform daily cooler & sales floor temperature checks.
  • Ensure freshness and quality through rotation of product throughout the department.
  • Maintain a cleaning log for the sales floor and meat retail area.
  • Clean and sanitize meat preparation areas, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with established procedures and health regulations.
  • Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and sanitizing chemicals, informing the Meat Manager when supplies are low.
  • Plan attractive meat displays, using color and texture to enhance.
  • Ensure displays are replenished, rotated, and culled daily.
  • Build and maintain in-store displays according to established standards.
  • Ensure accurate, up-to-date uniform department signs.
  • Assist customers with meat questions in a prompt and friendly manner.
  • Assist customers with special orders and oversee the special orders system.
  • Respond to meat department customer suggestions, comments & complaints in a reasonable manner.
  • Make customers feel important and special, and assist in any other department as needed.
  • Answer & route phone calls.
  • Greet customers and provide prompt and courteous service and assistance.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by management.
  • Assist customers in all departments in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
  • Maintain department logs, cleaning schedules, safety materials, and inventory documents.
  • Perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Participate in training activities to increase personal skill levels and improve overall department processes and customer service.
