Requirements

  • Prior meat cutting / fabrication experience required.
  • Basic ability to read and interpret documents required.
  • Basic math and computation skills required.
  • Skills to read, understand and follow through on verbal and written instructions.
  • Skills to exercise good judgment at all times.
  • Ability to speak, read and understand English.
  • Required frequently and up to continuously to be on feet with a mix of standing and walking throughout shift.
  • Continuously required to: lift 1-10 pounds; push/pull 1-10 pounds; use arms, hands and wrists; grasping/squeezing.
  • Frequently required to: lift 11-20 pounds; twist; reach at/above shoulder; reach below shoulder.
  • Occasionally required to: carry 1-50 pounds; push/pull 11-20 pounds; bend/stoop; crouch/squat; reach at/above shoulder.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of retail Meat and Seafood departments preferred, however butcher shop or meat fabrication industry experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Processes all cuts of beef, lamb and pork products.
  • Orders and maintains production schedule for meat products.
  • Provides exceptional customer service.

  • Observes all company rules and policies, understanding and complying with specific department guidelines.
  • Wraps, weighs, and prices meat and seafood products according to policy, dating, and government regulations.
  • Ensures all meat and seafood items are cut, trimmed, and processed according to company standards.
  • Orders meat products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs, maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
  • Maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Stocks, rotates, and faces cases, adhering to merchandising standards, quality, and expiration dates.
  • Maintains awareness of industry trends, current ads, promotions, holidays, and events, planning for weekly ads and events.
  • Assesses and adjusts production needs based on sales and is responsible for the production schedule.
  • Maintains production levels and updates the production guide.
  • Guides the work of back-up meat cutters, including planning, assigning work, ensuring quality standards, training, and overseeing productivity.
  • Partners with the department management team to maintain excellent department conditions.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise, checking quality and count for accuracy and condition.
  • Assists customers with product selection, shares product knowledge, and makes recommendations.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with products in the department, including terminology, cuts, uses, vendor information, and labeling.
  • Adheres to department compliance with company organic standards.
  • Completes customer special orders thoroughly and provides follow-through.
  • Maintains accurate pricing and signage that meet merchandising standards.
  • Follows company procedures for processing invoices, transfers, and credits.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
  • Maintains the organization, rotation, and cleanliness of back stock areas.
  • May participate in inventories, scheduling, and performance reviews.
  • Notifies department manager of any situations relating to customer service, safety, productivity, security, or any other situation that may have an adverse effect on the store.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
