About The Position

The Meat Clerk works in the Meat Department at Sprouts Farmers Market, providing friendly, prompt customer service while handling, preparing, and storing meat products. The role includes receiving and moving fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry; checking deliveries against invoices; weighing, storing, grinding, and rotating products; and maintaining product knowledge and safe food-handling practices. The clerk assists customers with questions, special orders, product locations, and weekly ad items, and follows department procedures and the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs. The position also involves housekeeping and sanitizing department work areas, working in a temperature-controlled area, and following applicable safety, health, weights-and-measures regulations, and company recipes. The work is hands-on and fast-paced, with a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
• Dependable and reliable.
• Outgoing and friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and ability to interact with customers.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Good communication skills and ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
• Ability to stand continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift; walk up to 2 miles per 8-hour shift.
• Ability to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
• Good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
• Ability to lift or carry products weighing 25 to 90 pounds horizontally or vertically between 4 and 60 inches, up to 10 feet, for up to 20 hours.
• Ability to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 85 pounds of force, up to 100 feet, for up to 5 hours.
• Ability to move product racks weighing up to 70 pounds horizontally, requiring up to 25 pounds of force, up to 50 feet, for up to 10 hours.
• Ability to move tables weighing up to 70 pounds, requiring more than 35 pounds of force, up to 2 feet, for up to 1 hour.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and assist with customer questions, special orders, and needs.
• Maintain knowledge of products, preparation techniques, weekly ad items, and product locations throughout the store.
• Receive, store, and grind meats; unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
• Count and weigh incoming products and compare results against invoices.
• Examine stored meats and rotate products to avoid aging.
• Follow safe food-handling practices and all Meat Department procedural guidelines.
• Follow the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
• Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize the department work area, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
• Adhere to safety, health, weights-and-measures regulations, and company recipes.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
