About The Position

The Meat Associate is part of the Fresh team, responsible for providing nutritious and beautiful fresh and prepared foods. This role involves ensuring and delivering best-in-class customer service while following company policies and procedures for meat and seafood cutting, wrapping, ordering, and receiving. The Meat Associate is responsible for maintaining, rotating (FIFO), and setting/breaking down all meat retail case displays. Additionally, the role includes performing sanitation duties to ensure all equipment, floors, walls, and ceilings are clean and sanitary, adhering to food safety and sanitation standards set by regulatory authorities and the company.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
  • Willingness and ability to learn to meet the changing requirements of the job.
  • Able to work at least one weekend day regularly per week.
  • Able to work early morning, late evening shifts as needed.
  • Ability to use computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and office equipment frequently.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move between 50 to 100 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, reach above shoulder height, use repetitive motions, and climb stairs/ladders frequently.
  • Ability to use fine motor skills for typing, grasping, manipulating objects with fingers.
  • Ability to write or type reports, and complete checklists in written or digital format.
  • Ability to read and interpret small print and alphanumeric product codes.
  • Ability to work overnight, weekend and non-business hour shifts as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with purchasing and merchandising.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience, particularly in a meat department, retail or natural foods store.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a positive customer experience by upholding the customer service commitment.
  • Produce food that is safe, delicious, attractive, and meets customer needs.
  • Work with the Fresh Manager to provide a meat selection that reflects product and pricing strategy and satisfies customers.
  • Maintain familiarity with all store areas to best assist customers.
  • Use appropriate phone/intercom and interpersonal etiquette.
  • Communicate in a clear, direct, and respectful manner.
  • Contribute to a culture of food safety and cleanliness in the department.
  • Keep work, equipment, retail, and storage areas in clean, orderly condition, meeting Health Department regulations.
  • Complete daily inventories of product and production logs, and communicate meat department needs to the manager.
  • Maintain constant awareness of product expiration dates and FIFO rotating requirements.
  • Complete inventories and record department shrink.
  • Validate that products received are wholesome, unadulterated, and at required temperatures for food safety.
  • Conduct routine time and temperature checks for all equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations.
  • Maintain department equipment in good working order.
