Requirements

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience required.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience required.
  • Entry to mid-level proficiency with MS Office.
  • Skills to manage financial results, including labor, sales and profit margin.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Basic to intermediate math and computation skills required.
  • Skills to read, understand and follow through on verbal and written instructions.
  • Skills to exercise good judgment at all times.
  • Skills to resolve conflicts and analyze a variety of situations to find a solution.
  • Ability to speak, read and understand English.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of retail Meat and Seafood departments preferred.
  • Butcher shop or meat fabrication industry experience acceptable.
  • Prior meat cutting / fabrication experience highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge with POS, inventory or other retail specific software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with Meat Manager to manage department and staff, including financial stewardship, customer service, department conditions, merchandising, food safety, work safety, communication, hiring, training and performance management.
  • Provides leadership in line with company values and promotes a positive and progressive work environment.
  • Engages customers in a friendly manner, shares product information, and assists in locating products.

  • Manages and provides oversight to all areas of the department in partnership with the department manager.
  • Assesses, prioritizes, and delegates tasks and production.
  • Ensures consistency of department conditions, including stocking, rotation, facing, and merchandising standards.
  • Ensures satisfactory in-stock conditions and maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals.
  • Orders meat products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs.
  • Trains staff to write orders and production schedules consistent with department goals.
  • Ensures all Meat and Seafood items are cut, trimmed, and processed to company standards.
  • Builds displays and arranges department products for attractive presentations.
  • Plans for weekly ads, events, and holidays in partnership with the department manager.
  • Maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Coordinates with Promotions department to plan and conduct in-store tastings.
  • Ensures customer special orders are accurately placed and delivered.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise, checking quality, count, and condition.
  • Stocks and rotates products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
  • Maintains the organization, rotation, and cleanliness of back stock areas.
  • Wraps, weighs, and prices Meat and Seafood products.
  • Assists customers with product selection, shares product knowledge, and makes recommendations.
  • Ensures department compliance with company organic standards.
  • Plans, leads, and analyzes monthly perishable inventory in partnership with the department manager.
  • Meets labor and margin goals and schedules department accordingly.
  • Develops and executes a plan when results do not meet expectations.
  • Coaches department to maintain appropriate, accurate, and organized inventory and back stock.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of department equipment and trains staff.
  • Leverages resources and labor to maximize efficiency without compromising quality and service standards.
  • Balances administrative tasks with presence on the floor.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
