Assists with the execution of department operations and work, including ordering and inventory control. Prepares, stocks, cuts, weighs and wraps Meat and Seafood department products. Ensures service case and grab & go programs in the Meat and Seafood departments meet expectations; stocking and facing product in all frozen and fresh service or self-service cases. Audits sell by dates to meet quality standards. Responsibilities may vary depending on the area of focus—Meat Department, Seafood Department or Grab & Go. Provides exceptional customer service and contributes to a positive and collaborative team environment.

Requirements

  • As a retail grocer, we operate 7 days/week and 365 days/year. Our in-store positions are likely to include evening, weekend, and holiday shifts per the needs of the business.

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Prior meat cutting/fabrication/butchery experience required.
  • Required frequently and up to continuously to be on feet with a mix of standing and walking throughout shift. Sitting seldom required.
  • Up to occasionally, dependent on location, required to climb stairs, step stool and /or ladders.
  • Frequently required to use hands and wrists for grabbing, twisting and pulling.
  • Medium/Heavy means the worker has the ability to occasionally (1 – 33%) lift 100 pounds while participating in a team lift and has the ability to frequently (34 – 66%) lift, push, pull, or carry objects weighing 50 pounds. Please note we encourage team lifts for any objects over 50lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of retail Meat and Seafood departments preferred, however butcher shop or meat fabrication industry experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Assists department leaders in guiding the work of meat and seafood clerks and other department staff, including prioritizing and assigning work, training staff, and ensuring quality standards are met and tasks are completed.
  • Wraps, weighs and prices meat and seafood products according to department policy, dating and government regulations in regards to tare weights and COOL Act.
  • Ensures all meat and seafood items are cut, trimmed, and processed in accordance to company standards.
  • Orders product according to business needs. Maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve business goals.
  • Maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Maintains awareness of industry trends for both Meat and Seafood, current ads, promotions, holidays and events. Supports plans for weekly ads, events and holidays.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with products in department, including terminology, cuts, recommended product uses, vendor/supplier information and product labelling, with ability to continue learning.
  • Ensures maintenance of excellent department conditions for both Meat and Seafood, including appearance, cleanliness, signage, service levels, rotation and cleanliness of back stock areas.
  • Assists customers with product selection. Shares product knowledge with customers. Makes recommendations and suggestions based on customer needs.
  • Maintains accurate pricing and signage that meet merchandising standards.
  • Follows company procedures for processing invoices, transfers and credits.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
  • Notifies department manager or Manager on Duty (MOD) of any situations relating to customer service, safety, productivity, security or any other situation that may have an adverse effect on the store.
  • Assists with daily meat production for service case, grab & go and back stock.
  • Assists with daily case set up and break down as needed.
  • Adheres to department compliance with company organic standards.
  • Completes customer special orders thoroughly and provides follow-through as needed.
  • May participate in other activities, such as inventories, scheduling and performance reviews.
  • Assists with daily seafood production for service case, grab & go and back stock.
  • Assists with special events.
  • Plan and document daily production list for Meat and Seafood to fulfil appropriate Grab & Go needs.
  • Review, pull and audit product from fresh and frozen Grab & Go cases to ensure correct sell by dates and quality standards are met.
  • Document freezer and fresh case “pull list” to assist in restocking.
  • Orders and packages products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs. Maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals. Maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Forecast, package and pre-price all available vendor products to prepare for following shift. Ensure there is 48 hours’ worth of item sales.
  • Stocks, rotates and faces both service and grab and go (fresh and frozen) cases for both Meat and Seafood. Adheres to Merch standards, category schematics, quality and expiration dates.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
