About The Position

The Meal Site Coordinator and Office Assistant play a critical role in the successful operation of the meal service program at Knickerbocker Village Senior Services NORC, which serves older adults in the community. This program addresses food insecurity and malnutrition, helping participants maintain their health, dignity, and independence as they age. This dual-role position is responsible for overseeing daily meal service operations, ensuring that meals are delivered in a safe, sanitary, and high-quality manner. In addition, the role provides essential administrative support, including accurate recordkeeping and data management related to meal distribution and program compliance. By upholding rigorous standards of cleanliness, efficiency, and documentation, the Meal Site Coordinator and Office Assistant ensures the integrity of the program and contributes directly to its mission of supporting older adults through reliable, nutritious meal services.

Requirements

  • At least one year of relevant work experience is preferred, particularly in food service, community programs, or administrative support.
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handler’s Certificate within six months of hire.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods during meal service and cleaning duties.
  • Demonstrated interest in working with older adults in a supportive, service-oriented role.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in both English and Chinese is preferred to facilitate effective communication with a diverse participant population.

Responsibilities

  • Operate under the direct supervision of the Knickerbocker Village NORC Director.
  • Receive task-specific training and oversight related to meal delivery, nutrition standards, food safety, and documentation from the City Hall Older Adult Center Director and designated staff.
  • Assist with meal distribution on Tuesdays and Thursdays during scheduled service hours.
  • Clean and properly store all meal program utensils, trays, and related equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and dining areas, including appliances, surfaces, and workstations.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of supplies; request replenishments as needed and store materials appropriately.
  • Wash and chill fresh fruits in accordance with food safety protocols.
  • Ensure all food handling and service procedures comply with NYC Aging and Department of Health (DOH) standards.
  • Attend staff meetings and mandatory training sessions to stay current with operational and safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the KV NORC Activity Coordinator and HMH Director of Volunteers to organize and support volunteer participation in the meal program.
  • Utilize the NYC Aging database system to scan and upload data on meals served.
  • Maintain accurate daily records, including sign-in sheets, participant logs, lunch totals, and temperature logs.
  • Submit monthly reports on meal units and participant contributions to the City Hall Older Adult Center in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with the on-site meal driver to ensure safe and timely delivery of food to the KV NORC community room.
  • Participate in regular supervision sessions with the on-site supervisor to review performance and address operational needs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the DG1 office, ensuring that all surfaces, equipment, and shared areas are regularly sanitized and well-stocked.
  • Monitor inventory of cleaning and hygiene supplies; notify supervisor when restocking is required.
