This position is responsible for administering patient assessments, overseeing the assessment process, setting assessment schedules, and ensuring assessments are completed accurately and in a timely manner. The role coordinates the care plan according to regulatory requirements, schedules Medicare and Medicaid services, initiates Medicare coverage for eligible patients, and manages denial letters. The MDS Coordinator stays updated on Medicare coverage changes and assists in determining necessary documentation for Medicaid reimbursement. They also direct the daily functions of nursing assistants, ensure compliance with facility policies and procedures, and participate in the facility's quality assurance program. This role involves admitting, transferring, and discharging residents, completing accident/incident reports, and maintaining various facility reports. The position requires meticulous charting and documentation, accurate medication administration, and adherence to drug administration protocols. Additionally, the MDS Coordinator participates in employee evaluations, supervises nursing personnel, and fosters a positive and organized work environment. They are responsible for ensuring direct nursing care is provided by qualified personnel and for collaborating with physicians and other departments to meet resident needs. The role also includes participating in staff development, safety, and sanitation initiatives, managing equipment and supplies, and actively participating in the care plan and assessment process, including MDS, RAPs, and Triggers.
