The Orlando Health Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) Coordinator will be involved in the coordination and facilitation of a new MCS program with cross training in both Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Therapy, Cardiogenic Shock, and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) support. This position is responsible for facilitating the care and education of VAD, shock and ECMO patients and their families throughout the process to ensure continuity of care across the VAD/ECMO/Transplant continuum. Functions as a program and population-based expert clinician, responsible for independent and interdependent nursing practice. Coordinates and optimizes health care team interventions across the continuum, including inpatient and outpatient settings, and is actively involved in meeting discharge goals and long-term care outcomes. Assists educators in providing competencies for staff and community education. Participates in patient and caregiver education. Provides educational/outreach programs to health care providers, patient groups, community organizations, and others in the hospital’s service area. The MCS Coordinator serves in a rotating on call capacity for the team, to provide 24-hour coverage for both inpatients (staff) and outpatients. Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work in an autonomous setting. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
