About The Position

Telecare has over 300 Peer roles and is committed to growing the lived experience within the organization, offering a career ladder specific to its Peer Workforce. The Peer Recovery Coach I engages, inspires, and facilitates meaningful conversations with members served to assist them in exploring, creating, and meeting their own recovery goals. They provide consultation to the team to promote and reinforce Telecare’s Recovery Culture, where each member’s point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected, and integrated into services and self-help programming. Additionally, Peer Recovery Coaches respond to critical situations with high-level engagement and de-escalation skills to support a least restrictive environment for members served experiencing a mental health/addiction-related emergency. The San Mateo Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) will bring crisis services to people in the community, delivered by a dedicated team of mental health professionals with law enforcement involvement only where necessary. This role aims to expand much-needed crisis care in San Mateo County in a way that is safe, accessible, and compassionate, helping individuals get the support they need and reduce unnecessary law enforcement involvement, ER visits, and hospitalizations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Peer Certification must be obtained prior to hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • California: Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification through CalMHSA must be obtained within 120 days of your date of hire and maintained throughout employment. Failure to obtain certification within this period will result in separation with the company.
  • One (1) year or part-time equivalent of experience supporting members served with behavioral health challenges.
  • Experience as a beneficiary of the public Behavioral Health system of care.
  • Successful completion of Peer Support Training or Peer Employment Training.
  • Valid and current driver’s license, and personal vehicle insurance with your name listed as a driver.

  • Use the company vehicle to drive clients to appointments and groups.
