About The Position

The HTST Operator is responsible for operating semi-automated equipment for milk and cream pasteurization. This role is also responsible for running the Evaporator and Dryer for power production. This is a safety sensitive role.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain state permits to operate pasteurizer.
  • Must be able to work 12 hour shift, including weekend and holiday work.
  • Ability to read and comprehend standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment.
  • Ability to frequently lift/carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 80 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment, and obtain certifications
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the shift.
  • Ability to climb stairs up to 10 stories and work at heights with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to interpret and understand results of official samples.
  • Ability to work safely with required sanitation and lab chemicals and follow appropriate PPE guidelines.
  • Effective collaborative skills; must perform comfortably in group settings.
  • Verbal and written communication skills; ability to follow instructions and to clearly express ideas in a concise and professional manner.
  • Basic math skills including arithmetic and the ability to perform and interpret basic calculations.
  • Ability to bend, twist, turn, reach above shoulders and climb throughout shift as needed.
  • Understanding of machine operations.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Operate milk and cream HTST pasteurizer within specified requirements.
  • Perform cream culturing process, as needed, to meet production requirements provided by buttermaker.
  • Operate automated CIP systems to clean HTST system, Evaporator, Dryer, Lines, Tanks and Silos as needed. Fill out and file bills of lading and certificates of analysis.
  • Follow and comply with applicable good manufacturing, safety, and quality assurance policies and practices.
  • Assist with State Time & Seals as well as separator and press teardown.
  • Maintain HTST equipment by assisting in valve seal changing as well as gasket replacement.
  • Maintain proper RAW milk silo rotation.
  • Complete daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly items in a complete & timely fashion.
  • Ensures solids from the Evaporator are in specification with quality standards.
  • Confirms moisture are in specifications of quality standards and are free of scorched particles.
  • Ensures skim and cream fats are within specification of quality standards.
  • General housekeeping, cleaning, and sanitizing all other areas and equipment.
  • Good record keeping required.
  • Assist with general plant cleaning as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
