About The Position

The Department of Juvenile Justice is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth and strengthen families and communities across the Commonwealth. DJJ's Division of Education is seeking a qualified Mathematics Teacher to provide high-quality, standards-based instruction that supports the individual learning needs of students and aligns with the Commonwealth's educational standards, statutes, and program certification requirements. The teacher will design and deliver engaging, research-based instruction, foster a safe, respectful, and student-centered learning environment, and use student data to inform instruction, monitor progress, and promote academic success.

Requirements

  • Earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and graduated from an approved teacher preparation program in Mathematics; or Earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and completed a major in Mathematics or 36 semester hours of coursework distributed in each of the following areas: Algebra, including linear algebra and abstract algebra; Geometry, including Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometries; Analytic Geometry; Probability and Statistics; Discrete Mathematics, including the study of mathematical properties of finite sets and systems and linear programming; Calculus, including multivariable calculus; Mathematical Modeling; and Computer Science, including two programming languages.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching Certificate/License with an endorsement in Mathematics.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Mathematics Teacher in a secondary setting
  • Experience teaching at-risk youth
