About The Position

American Heritage School is seeking a full-time high school math teacher. This role is considered a faith-forming position where teachers are expected to actively support, model, and teach principles consistent with the Mission and values of AHS and the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In addition to academic instruction, teachers will integrate faith-based principles and moral reasoning into classroom instruction, serve as an example of Christian character and discipleship, support the spiritual mission of the school, participate in school-wide devotionals and faith-centered activities, and respond thoughtfully to student questions related to faith, values, and moral decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in math education.
  • Three months or more of tutoring and teaching AP and college-level calculus in a high school/college setting.
  • Score at least 185 in the Praxis secondary school math teacher exam (5165).
  • Score at least 34 in ACT math section or 730 in SAT math section.
  • Commitment to actively participate in and contribute to a faith-based educational environment aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • High energy and a warm, consistent presence in the classroom.
  • Experience preparing and delivering daily lesson plans.
  • Experience establishing and communicating clear learning objectives.
  • Ability to use a variety of pedagogical methods.
  • Willingness to continue learning and growing professionally.
  • Professional in appearance and demeanor.
  • Willing and able to serve as ambassadors for the AHS Mission, Honor Code, and Diversity Statement.
  • Personal conduct, public statements, and online presence, both on and off campus, must reflect and support the school's religious mission and educational purpose.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and implementing engaging mathematics lessons at the high school level, including AP Calculus.
  • Tutoring and mentoring students in mathematics and career development, including AP Calculus.
  • Fulfilling various administrative duties as assigned by the school.
  • Integrating faith-based principles and moral reasoning into classroom instruction where appropriate.
  • Serving as an example of Christian character and discipleship to students.
  • Supporting and upholding the spiritual mission of the school through daily interactions with students and colleagues.
  • Participating in school-wide devotionals, prayer, and other faith-centered activities.
  • Responding thoughtfully to student questions related to faith, values, and moral decision-making in a manner consistent with the school's mission.
  • Creating and posting assignments with clear instructions, models, and rubrics.
  • Maintaining purposeful and effective classroom routines.
  • Communicating with parents and colleagues in ways that are timely, collaborative, precise, and positive.
  • Monitoring and reporting student progress clearly and consistently.
