Remote Mathematics Specialist
About The Position
This fully remote contract role is for PhDs, whether pursuing or completed, in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field. The specialist uses mathematical and analytical skills to help fine-tune large language models and improve their performance. No prior AI experience is required. The work includes designing advanced math problems to test AI performance, developing rigorous step-by-step solutions, evaluating AI responses, and collaborating with researchers to refine benchmarks across undergraduate- through PhD-level mathematics topics. Assignments have defined start and end dates and may be up to 40 hours per week. Compensation is $100+ per hour, depending on the role and the candidate’s expertise. Shortlisted candidates complete an evaluation before selection.
Requirements
- A PhD, either in progress or completed, in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Strong mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills across advanced domains.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly in writing and provide structured feedback.
Responsibilities
- Design advanced mathematics problems that test AI capabilities, including multi-step reasoning, abstraction, and symbolic manipulation.
- Develop clear, rigorous, step-by-step solutions.
- Evaluate AI outputs for accuracy and quality of reasoning.
- Collaborate with researchers to refine benchmarks across undergraduate- through PhD-level mathematics topics.
