About The Position

The Mathematics Academic Advisor serves as an academic advisor for undergraduate Mathematics majors across all sequences, including Pure and Applied Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics Teacher Education, and legacy majors in Data Science and Computational Mathematics, as well as minors in mathematics. The role also involves assisting students with registration issues in all mathematics courses and contributing to the department's recruitment and retention efforts. Additionally, the advisor plays a crucial role in the large General Education commitment, serving students from various departments across campus. A key responsibility is to liaise with other advisors on campus and facilitate the transition for students accepted into the 5-year BS/MS program from Pure and Applied mathematics to the Accelerated Sequence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a closely related field
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to make effective public presentations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including listening, communication, and teamwork
  • Ability to multi-task and produce quality work under deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work with diverse population of students, peers, and the public
  • Working knowledge of basic office software and advising systems (word processing, e-mail systems, spreadsheets, databases, student information systems, etc.)
  • Evidence of a positive professional demeanor that contributes to a positive and fulfilling work environment
  • Evidence of understanding of the issues facing today's college students as it impacts their academic careers
  • Valid driver’s license
