About The Position

SmartStart Education seeks a small group math tutor to work with small groups of elementary school students. The tutor will work with students identified as struggling with fundamental math skills, from kindergarten to 5th grade. The role involves providing services within or outside the classroom and requires daily attendance tracking and student progress monitoring using a personal device. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about teaching and making a positive impact on urban, working-class youth.

Requirements

• Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any field.
• Demonstrated experience of at least one year in teaching or tutoring, either within a school environment or another educational setting.
• Mastery of elementary school math concepts and skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by urban students, schools, and communities, encompassing racial disparity, socio-economic disparity, and cultural disparity.
• Genuine passion and unwavering commitment towards fostering the success of students.
• Exemplary punctuality, ensuring timely attendance and adherence to established schedules.
• Proficiency in communication skills, enabling effective and articulate interaction with students, colleagues, and interested parties.
• Ability to comfortably commute to the designated location.
• Ability to comfortably navigate a school environment, including walking through hallways, classrooms, and stairways throughout the workday.

Responsibilities

• Work with small groups of 1-4 elementary school students (K-5th grade) who are struggling with fundamental math skills.
• Provide tutoring services within the classroom (push-in) or outside the classroom (pull-out).
• Take daily attendance.
• Monitor student progress using a personal device (mobile phone).
