About The Position

The Math Teacher is responsible for teaching middle and high school mathematics courses in alignment with the mission and values of Vanguard College Preparatory School. This position fosters a positive, engaging learning environment that emphasizes mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, real-world applications, curiosity, and student growth. The ideal candidate works well as part of a team and utilizes best practices in a creative, practice-based learning environment. This role plays a key part in supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development while maintaining high academic standards and a commitment to differentiation. Working closely with the Math Department Head, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and other school leaders, the Math Teacher ensures continuity in curriculum and programming while maintaining a distinct focus on the needs of the students. Opportunities to coach or participate in extracurricular activities are also available.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute engaging lessons for multiple levels of math courses that align with the school’s curriculum
  • Integrate mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and real-world applications into daily instruction
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learner needs, including small-group instruction and technology-based tools
  • Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments; analyze results to guide instruction
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student growth
  • Differentiate instruction for students of varying academic levels
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, the Math Department Head, and parents/guardians
  • Serve as an advisor to a select number of students
  • Participate in/facilitate extracurricular activities, enrichment programming, clubs, and community-building events
  • Create a positive, structured classroom environment that promotes student engagement and academic growth
  • Integrate classroom technologies to enhance teaching and learning
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset, optimism, and the belief that all students can learn
