About The Position

The Math Instructional Coach works with the District Curriculum Team to support principals and teachers in improving math instruction and student learning outcomes. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with the Oklahoma Math Achievement & Proficiency Act and building teacher capacity through professional learning, instructional modeling, data analysis, and collaborative planning. The coach provides ongoing support aligned with district goals to ensure all students achieve high levels of math mastery and fluency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Valid teaching certificate with appropriate math endorsement
  • Minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience in mathematics
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative, and follow state and district guidelines.
  • Demonstrates expertise in math content, pedagogy, and assessment practices
  • Deep understanding of mathematical concepts and best practices in math instruction (K–12)
  • Clear understanding of the Oklahoma Math Achievement & Proficiency Act
  • Skilled in differentiating instruction and integrating technology into teaching
  • Commitment to equity and to supporting all students in achieving high levels of math proficiency
  • Ability to coach and support principals and teachers through reflective practice and data analysis
  • Experience facilitating adult learning or professional development
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • An ability to work independently and in cooperation with others
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including computer experience and basic computer fluency
  • An energetic and positive approach to the rapidly evolving changes and challenges of education
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common academic journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to district leaders, public groups, and/or boards of education.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key partner in planning, implementation, and compliance related to the Oklahoma Math Achievement & Proficiency Act.
  • Serve as a liaison between teachers, administrators, and district leadership to support math initiatives.
  • Serve as a curriculum expert by developing deep knowledge of the district-adopted math program and supporting consistent, high-quality implementation across all grade levels.
  • Help plan and support the implementation of effective intervention and enrichment strategies to meet diverse student needs.
  • Collaborate with curriculum leaders to identify, select, and implement high-quality instructional resources.
  • Support effective use of the district’s Learning Management System (LMS) to assist teachers as needed.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and targeted feedback to principals and teachers to strengthen instructional effectiveness and student outcomes in mathematics.
  • Foster a collaborative culture that promotes reflection, professional growth, and high expectations for student learning.
  • Work with teachers and administrators to develop and monitor action plans that address identified student needs.
  • Analyze student performance, intervention, and assessment data to inform district decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with instructional leaders, site administrators, teachers, and intervention personnel to strengthen systems of support for mathematics learning.
  • Deliver professional learning, modeling, and resources to support effective instructional practices, intervention strategies, and student achievement.
  • Serve as a key partner in the development and ongoing refinement of district math curriculum maps, ensuring alignment of essential learning, instructional practices, assessment systems, and intervention supports.
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Department to support district-wide assessment coordination and provide assistance with assessment processes and reporting.
  • Support teachers in interpreting and using formative and summative data to inform instruction.
  • Assist the district and schools in identifying gaps in student outcomes and monitoring progress.
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders regarding progress, challenges, and successes in mathematics.
  • Assist wherever needed.
