About The Position

This position is available only to enrolled American University students. Most student positions at American University are eligible to use Federal Work Study (FWS) awards, with a few exceptions. Requirements

  • This position is available only to enrolled American University students.
  • You should enjoy working with children, and mathematics.

Nice To Haves

  • If the assistant needs to miss 1 or 2 sessions due to conflicts, then that is not a problem, provided that we have plenty of notice.

Responsibilities

  • Attend nine weekly sessions of the DC Math Circle, a program for students in grades 5 through 8.
  • Help set up the furniture in DMTI 111.
  • Help greet the students as they arrive.
  • During the session, help keep the students on task.
  • When a student could benefit from a leading question, either ask it, or bring over the session leader to ask it.
  • When a student has an idea that should be shared widely, get the attention of the session leader.
  • After the session, help clean up.
  • Other duties as assigned.
