The Maternity Doula I is an unlicensed caregiver who works under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) to provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support to laboring patients and their families throughout labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period. This role enhances the birthing experience by offering culturally sensitive care, patient advocacy, and comfort measures within the Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) units. In addition, the primary responsibility for this role is Patient Care Assistant clinical tasks, including assisting with activities of daily living, obtaining vital signs, and other direct patient care under RN supervision. This dual-capacity role requires strong critical thinking, prioritization, and collaboration skills to maintain patient safety and optimize unit efficiency.
