About The Position

Knapp Medical Center, a member of the Prime Healthcare Foundation, is an award-winning, not-for-profit hospital in Weslaco, Texas, with 227 beds. It specializes in emergency care, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, wound care, surgery, cardiology, gastroenterology, critical care, and interventional radiology. Knapp serves as the only acute care hospital in the Mid-Valley area, Weslaco's only Level III Trauma Center, Advanced Primary Stroke Center, and Level II Newborn Nursery, providing quality and compassionate healthcare for 60 years. The hospital employs over 450 people and has more than 300 physicians on its medical staff. The Maternal Program Manager, under the authorization of the Maternal Medical Director and OB-Perinatal Director, is responsible for the ongoing development, growth, operations, and oversight of the Maternal Program. This role involves demonstrating effective interpersonal skills, understanding interdependent roles of allied health professionals, assisting with policy and protocol development, participating in performance improvement, and staff education for OB/GYN acute clinical care. The manager promotes optimal care for pregnant and immediately postpartum patients through clinical activities, education, injury prevention, quality improvement, and patient safety. They act as a resource person for maternal nursing care and a liaison for maternal care, maintaining effective communication with all parties. The Maternal Program Manager, in conjunction with the Maternal Medical Director, is responsible for the overall management of the maternal program and will actively participate in the development of a regionalized maternal care system.

Requirements

  • Must have a current and valid state license as a Registered Nurse.
  • BLS (AHA) upon hire and maintain current.
  • ACLS certification within 90 days and maintain current.
  • NRP certification within 90 days and maintain current.
  • Basic Fetal monitoring within 60 days of hire.
  • Minimum of 5 years leadership experience in the discipline or master's degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring certificate preferred.
  • STABLE certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for the ongoing development, growth, operations, and oversight authority of the Maternal Program.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and an understanding of the interdependent roles of various allied health professionals.
  • Assist with the development of policies, protocols, practice guidelines.
  • Participate in performance improvement monitoring.
  • Participate in staff education to perform acute clinical care to the OB/ GYN.
  • Assist in promoting optimal care to the pregnant and immediately postpartum patient through clinical activities, professional and public education, injury prevention, and quality improvement and patient safety.
  • Act as a resource person to all patient care areas regarding nursing care as related to the pregnant and immediately postpartum patient.
  • Function as a liaison for maternal care by maintaining effective lines of communication with all concerned parties.
  • Responsible for overall management of the maternal program (in conjunction with Maternal Medical Director).
  • Actively participate in the development of regionalized maternal care system.
