About The Position

The Maternal/NICU Program Designation Coordinator (Coordinator) is a registered nurse who has the authority and responsibility to monitor the provision of maternal patient care services from admission, stabilization, operative intervention if applicable, through discharge, and inclusive of the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program. The coordinator is responsible for project oversight, management, ongoing maintenance and compliance with state regulation requirements for the hospitals Maternal Designation for obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) services and Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) services.

Requirements

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse as accepted by Texas State Board of Nursing to engage in professional nursing.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program and matriculated in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with graduation within two years of appointment.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in an area of maternal child health in an accredited institution.
• Leadership and project management skills or self-directed programing outreach education teaching in perinatal services or applicable experience.
• Strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills relevant to area in order to work effectively and collaboratively with the leadership team and staff.
• Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities necessary in order to evaluate delivery of care systems and nursing outcomes.
• Able to work independently as well as within teams.
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.
• Certification requirements as defined by the certification policy- ACLS, NRP, Fetal Monitoring
• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Proficient using Microsoft Office, Excel, ad PowerPoint.
• Organization skills with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Consistently supports role models and communicates the Mission, Vision, and Values of St Joseph Medical Center. Upholds the Standards of Conduct and Corporate Compliance. In conjunction with the Director of Women's Service sets the strategy for patient- and Family-Centered Care.
• Co-leads with Maternal Medical Director the QAPI meetings and coordinates designation meetings.
• Identifies and collaborates with content experts to develop varied and interactive learning activities.
• Serves as a professional resource person related to the Maternal/NICU designation programs.
• Plans, coordinates and conducts prenatal classes for the community.
• Provides essential leadership for advancing the practice of the patient- and family-centered care by being an active participating member of the Patient Family Advisory council.
• Collaborates with inter- and intra-professional colleagues to ensure quality outcomes.
• Maintains cooperative working relationships with physicians, hospital departments and employees necessary in order to obtain solutions to problems and improve coordination of services that provides and improve patient, physician and employee satisfaction.
• Utilizes principles of adult education when teaching.
• Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organizations; serves as a preceptor, mentor and resources to less experienced staff.
• Facilitates follow up to appropriate departments/committees and associates in a timely manner to insure effective flow of information and education.
• Builds relationships with referring physicians, and potential referring physicians through education, attendance at departmental meetings, and with patients through our outreach educational programs at local national meetings.
• Provides consultation to community programs by planning and conduction health fairs, screening, seminars and other public relations activities as needed.
• Conducts annual assessment for outreach community programs, formulates recommendations to improve programs, assists in the design of methods to modify or eliminate barriers for the community.
• Demonstrates interpersonal competencies such as effective problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict management skills.
• Formulates and implements patient care policies guidelines within the Child Health Services and procedures.
• Participates in local, state, and national Maternal and NICU designation groups and Maternal Child Health organizations.
• Effectively manages time by prioritizing demands and utilizing time efficiently.
• Establishes goals and objectives annually, and as needed.
• Maintains cooperative working relationships with physicians, hospital departments and employees necessary in order to obtain solutions to problems and improve coordination of services to ensure the highest quality of care for our patients.
• Serves as an expert clinician and patient/client advocate.
• Listen to and honor patient and family perspectives and choices.
• Communicate and share complete and unbiased information with the patients and families in ways that are affirming and useful.
• Follows the SJMC guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI), Code of Conduct, and Ethic & Corporate Compliance technology.
• Attends national/regional/local conference pertinent to Maternal Fetal Health Services.
• Promotes a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, proper reporting, documentation, and prevention of medical errors.
• Independently performs analysis of core measures records, completes focus studies relative to quality and appropriateness of care, identifying trends and possible patient outcome improvements.
• Identifies risks and hazards to patients through various risk assessments, with actions taken to mitigate patient harm.
• Reports performance improvement data to appropriate committees and individuals.
• Assures facility compliance with standards of Maternal and NICU designation set forth by Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
• Actively participates in regional and state forums, develops and maintains a variety of external contacts with educational institutions, regulatory agencies and community and professional organizations.
• Ensure high-quality patient care through continuous improvement in methods of delivery of patient care through revising and developing maternal/NICU standards, implementing appropriate corrective performance improvement initiatives.
• Attends national/regional/local conferences pertinent to maternal/newborn/NICU coordinator role.
• Formulates Maternal/NICU patient care policies and guidelines.
• Communicate and share complete and unbiased information with the patients and families in ways that are affirming and useful.
• Promotes stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring quality patient care.
• Identifies opportunities to reduce costs, identify coding opportunities and deduce unnecessary costs.
• Co-Develops capital and operating budgets for compliance with Maternal and/or NICU designation and outreach education.
• Prepares and submits application for the program's Maternal and NICU designation.
