This position is full-time (100%) of the ESSCA Group support to the NASA EM22 Materials Test, Chemistry & Contamination Control Branch. Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School diploma or GED or equivalent; and at least 5 years of experience, or an Associate’s Degree.
  • Experience operating in a mechanical materials test lab.
  • Experience with MTS and Instron material test system operation and test method development.
  • Must be well-versed with ASTM standards.
  • Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID

Responsibilities

  • Works integrally with engineers/scientists and exercises practical knowledge of a wide range of technical, engineering, and scientific methods in the areas of electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, drafting, or assembly disciplines.
  • Applies standardized rules or operations that require training and experience in mechanical material testing.
  • Performs specific projects involving specialized or complicated procedures and applies a wide variety of test and inspection techniques to various engineering and scientific aspects to make on-site determinations.
  • Resolves operational problems to ensure appropriate interaction between components and recommends improved procedures, and modifies parts, instruments, and equipment.
  • Utilizes a variety of complex instruments, gauges, and methods to perform work on critical units or multiple subunits of a system or device.
  • Communicates with personnel in problem resolution, coordinates the work, reviews, analyses and the integration of the technical work of others.
  • Performing calibrations of laboratory equipment in accordance with ISO 17025.
  • Operating electromechanical and servo-hydraulic test machines to perform mechanical materials tests according to ASTM and NASA standards.
  • Communicating with customers and providing status updates on testing progress.
